Lin Yao Liao. Bench. February 22nd , 2018.
Benches retained their popularity as fitted seats in window alcoves, but in the 16th century they lost favour as freestanding pieces of furniture when chairs became more widely used. Upholstered versions were also made. Some of the most spectacular benches were made in the Spanish colonies in South America in the 17th century, notably in Cuzco, Peru, where benches bore enormous carved crestings and balustraded backs that were painted and gilded.
Compared to the usual table and chair configuration, a dining table with bench seating seems a bit odd and unusual. But before you dismiss the idea, consider the advantages and all the unique features that come with it. For instance, a bench can be perceived as being more comfortable by a lot of people because of the simple fact that it seats more people closer together, allowing them to interact.
A second factor in bench design is appearance. It is important that a bench fits in with its surroundings. The reason for this is that a bench, which appears to be an extension of the property it sits next to, will help to give a proprietary feel to the street. This increases the likelihood that business owners will take care of the bench (and the street) that will, in turn, have a positive effect on safety and security in the area.
